Compassionate Education in Islam as an Alternative to Violence: Qur’anic and Prophetic Models

Abstract





This study highlights the role of compassionate education in Islam as a civilizational alternative to violence in social upbringing. It analyzes Qur’anic and Prophetic texts that emphasize mercy and explores educational models drawn from the Qur’an, such as Luqman’s advice, the prayers of prophets, and dialogical approaches, alongside Prophetic practices characterized by kindness, gradual teaching, and exemplary conduct. The research demonstrates that Islamic pedagogy offers practical alternatives to violence through compassion, wisdom, gentle exhortation, dialogue, and balanced reward and punishment. Findings reveal that compassionate education fosters balanced personality development, self-confidence, social belonging, and psychological security, making it a strategic approach to addressing educational violence. The study recommends integrating Islamic values of mercy and wisdom into curricula and teacher training programs to strengthen non-violent educational practices
