"Remembrance (Dhikr) and Supplication (Dua) in the Noble Quran and Sunnah and Their Impact on Mental Health: An Exegetical and Educational Study"
Abstract
Praise be to Allah, by whose grace good deeds are completed, and who bestowed upon humankind the gift of intellect, reflection, and the ability to discern between right and wrong. Peace and blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad, the noblest of creation, who illuminated the paths of guidance and peace, and upon his family, companions, and all who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment.
This study highlights that Allah has endowed humanity with the blessing of reason and contemplation, and established remembrance (dhikr) and supplication (duʿāʾ), grounded in the Qur’an and the Prophetic tradition, as a comprehensive divine framework for achieving guidance and psychological stability. This framework serves as an educational and preventive system that contributes to behavioral correction and the treatment of deviations, while providing a practical model for guiding youth and protecting them from psychological pressures. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) embodied this methodology in his life, and his Companions faithfully transmitted its teachings, thereby reinforcing its values in the psychological and educational development of the Muslim community.
The research aims to examine dhikr and (duʿāʾ) from the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence, and to explore their psychological and educational impacts, along with relevant contemporary applications. The study is structured into three main sections:
• The first section discusses dhikr and (duʿāʾ) in light of the primary Islamic sources, emphasizing their significance and role in the life of a Muslim.
• The second section focuses on psychological effects through an integrated scientific and Islamic approach, reviewing neurological impacts based on contemporary studies and analyzing the Islamic educational perspective.
• The third section presents modern educational applications, including mental training programs, a scientific framework for therapeutic practices using dhikr and (duʿāʾ), and mechanisms for measuring outcomes through success indicators.
The study concludes with key findings that underscore the religious, psychological, and educational value of dhikr and (duʿāʾ), and offers a set of recommendations to enhance the practical utilization of these practices in contemporary contexts
