Pre-Islamic Arab religion was characterized by polytheism and idol worship. Each tribe had its own deities, such as Hubal, Al-Lat, and Al-Uzza. In addition, Arabs practiced pagan rituals, such as circling the Kaaba, along with primitive beliefs in magic and divination.

Other monotheistic religions (such as Judaism and Christianity) had a limited presence in some regions. Among these, the Hanafi phenomenon emerged, as they rejected paganism and the religion of Abraham (peace be upon him). Religious life was a reflection of tribal society and a prelude to the emergence of Islam, which united the Arabs under the doctrine
