"Umran" is the governing foundational value in the Holy Quran
Abstract
The Holy Quran calls upon humanity to cultivate and invest in the earth in a way that benefits all, making urbanization a foundational governing value that reflects the human role in stewardship and the development of the earth according to a balanced divine methodology. This value highlights the importance of integrating both material and spiritual development to achieve comprehensive growth. Urbanization, as explained in the Quran, is not merely a process of physical development and construction but rather a holistic system that requires sustainable development and the advancement of human values. Through a stewardship-centered vision, it urges humans to reflect on their role as caretakers of the earth. Additionally, urbanization plays a central role in realizing concepts and values such as stewardship, subjugation of resources, empowerment, labor, and human civilization. These values complement each other to direct human efforts toward fulfilling the true meaning of stewardship on earth. The relationship between urbanization and humankind is intrinsically linked to the fundamental mission of humans as stewards of the earth. God has assigned them this responsibility to work and build—not as a means of domination or oppression but rather to maintain balance and protect the earth. This responsibility requires diligent effort and a balance between the needs of the soul and the body to achieve the well-being of humanity.
