يهدف البحث الى تحديد ابعاد الملامح الاقليمية لشبكات السكك الحديد وتوزيعها المكاني في الامتداد الجغرافي لدول المشرق العربي، لتحديد العلاقات المكانية بين المرتكزات الطبيعية والبشرية واثرها على الهيكلية البنيوية للنقل بالسكك الحديدية المتباينة في توزيعها المكاني على مستوى دول منطقة الدراسة، لأجل الكشف عن القدرات التشغيلية للنقل البري باستخدام السكك الحديدية.
تحظى دول المشرق العربي بخطوط السكك الحديد البالغة اطوالها 20789 كم، تمتد مكانيا على مساحة قدرها نحو 3995764كم2، فضلا عن امتلاك دول المشرق العربي نحو (1516) من المعدات المتحركة تسهم في تحقيق الترابط المكاني بين المحطات البالغة (789) محطة، لتوليد حركة نقل بلغت نحو (518781) مسافر ونحو (152056) طن من الشحن البري باستخدام النقل البري بسكك الحديد عام 2021، خلصت الدراسة ان كل من العراق ومصر تتصدر دول منطقة الدراسة بالبنية المكانية لشبكات سكك الحديد مقارنة بكل من (12463كم).
