The level of information awareness and its relationship to psychological adjustment among students of the College of Education for Human Sciences / University of Mosul in light of the variables of gender and academic grade

Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the level of information awareness and its relationship with psychological adjustment among students of the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Mosul, considering the variables of gender (male/female) and academic year (second/fourth). To achieve this objective, the researchers formulated seven research questions. The study population consisted of students enrolled in the College of Education for Humanities during the academic year 2022–2023. The sample comprised 256 randomly selected students from the Departments of Educational and Psychological Sciences and Geography within the College.
To fulfill the research objectives, the researchers developed an Information Awareness Scale, finalized with 27 items, each followed by five response options. The Psychological Adjustment Scale prepared by Al-Farjani (2021) was adopted, consisting of 50 items with three response alternatives. Both instruments were reviewed by a

The scales were administered to the sample members, and after data collection and statistical analysis using appropriate statistical methods, the following results were obtained:
1.
Students of the College of Education for Humanities generally possess a good level of information awareness.
2.
No statistically significant differences were found in information awareness levels based on gender or academic year.
3.
Students exhibit a moderate degree of psychological adjustment.
4.
No statistically significant differences were found in psychological adjustment levels according to gender (male/female) or academic year (second/fourth).
5.
A statistically significant positive correlation exists between information awareness and psychological adjustment.
The researchers concluded that there is a positive, statistically significant relationship between information awareness and psychological adjustment; as information awareness increases, so does psychological adjustment. The study further offered several recommendations and proposals for future research.
