- This research aims to identify the personality of Ya`qub ibn al-Laith al-Saffar, the founder of the Saffarid state, and his military activity. And that is by focusing on building his army, and providing it with various types of weapons, in addition to his leadership style; All this enabled him to establish a strong army that, within a short period, was able to extend its influence at the expense of a number of emirates that were independent of the Abbasid Caliphate at the time, taking advantage of the weakness of the central administration in Baghdad. Thus, he was able to annex many areas located in the east of the Abbasid Caliphate, to become directly on its borders, and thus he clashed militarily with the Abbasid Caliphate. This research came to give a clear picture of the military activity of Ya`qub ibn al-Laith al-Saffar during the period (237-265 AH / 851-878 AD)
