Abstract

All praise is due to Allah, who revealed the Qur’an as guidance for humanity, a continual source of knowledge and insight. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who conveyed the message and clarified the ways of understanding and contemplation. To proceed:

The concept of contextual aesthetics refers to the manner in which discourse is structured within diverse contexts, employing varied linguistic and rhetorical strategies that attract the recipient’s attention and enhance the communicative and persuasive force of the message. This study, entitled (The Aesthetics of Context and Its Effect in Surat At-Taghābun: A Linguistic and Rhetorical Study,); seeks to uncover the aesthetic dimensions of contextual variation in Qur’anic discourse, with particular focus on Surat At-Taghābun, and to demonstrate the role of context in guiding meaning and constructing semantic coherence. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, drawing on linguistic and rhetorical tools to examine manifestations of textual cohesion and coherence within the Qur’anic discourse. The structure of the study consists of an introduction and two main sections. The introduction addresses the concept of context and its significance in linguistic and rhetorical studies. The first section explores semantic context and its role in directing meaning, through an analysis of key lexical items and semantic relations within the surah. The second section examines the rhetorical imagery of Surat At-Taghābun, with particular emphasis on rhetorical devices such as conciseness (ījāz), amplification (iṭnāb), and rhetorical shift (iltifāt), and their function in reinforcing the aesthetic and expressive structure of the Qur’anic text. The study concludes with a list of sources and references, along with a presentation of the main findings, which highlight the integration of semantic and rhetorical dimensions in Surat At-Taghābun and the pivotal role of context in achieving the objectives of Qur’anic discourse.

Keywords: Context, Aesthetics of the Qur'anic Discourse, Surah At-Taghabun, Semantic Cohesion and Coherence, Rhetorical Imagery.
