Abstract
The aim of the research is to determine the impact of the Pentagram strategy on the achievement of fifth-grade female students in the Arabic language subject. To achieve this goal, the researcher formulated a null hypothesis as follows:
- There is no statistically significant difference in the average scores of students in the experimental group, who are taught using the Pentagram strategy, and the average scores of students in the control group, who are taught using the conventional method, in the achievement test.
The research sample was deliberately selected from the research community and consisted of fifth-grade science students at Al-Khadija Al-Kubra Preparatory School for Girls in Mosul for the first semester of the academic year 2023-2024. The sample consisted of 73 students distributed into experimental and control groups, with 37 students for the experimental group taught using the Pentagram strategy and 36 students for the control group taught using the traditional method.
The researchers employed an experimental method with equivalent groups. They ensured equivalence between the research groups in several variables, including chronological age, previous Arabic language grade, overall GPA for the previous academic year, intelligence quotient, and parents' educational attainment.
To achieve the research objective, an assessment tool was developed: the achievement test, which was characterized by reliability and validity.
After developing the teaching plans and the assessment tool, the experiment was implemented by the curriculum supervisor at the school in the first semester of the academic year 2023-2024, starting on Sunday, October 15, 2023, and ending on Monday, January 8, 2024. The achievement test was administered on Monday, January 8, 2024, to both research groups.
The findings of the research are as follows:
- The use of the Pentagram strategy in teaching the Arabic language subject contributed to improving the academic achievement of fifth-grade female students in Arabic grammar, especially considering their readiness for learning, particularly in Arabic language and its teaching methods and strategies diversity.
- Education directorates should direct Arabic language teachers to use the Pentagram strategy as an alternative to traditional teaching methods, which tend to make the student a passive recipient of information during the lesson and not actively engaged. This recommendation is based on the current research results, which emphasize making the student the focal point of the educational process.
