This research focuses on studying the historical stages of urban and functional growth of the city of Sinjar from its inception to the present time, and the reflection of this development on the characteristics and current size of the city.
The city grows and evolves through two main dimensions: time and place. There is no doubt about the importance of the temporal dimension, which represents the development of historical events, making it essential for our understanding of the nature of urban emergence and decline, whether natural or human-made. The foundation of this is the second dimension, represented by place, which underscores the significance of geographical factors (location and site) in the emergence of cities and the changes in their roles and functions
