Geopolitics: Sino-American competition over Iraq’s oil
Geopolitics: Sino-American competition over Iraq’s oil
Abstract
The research aims to know the capabilities of the oil wealth that Iraq possesses, whether in the field of confirmed reserves or the field of production, and to know the international and Arab weight of Iraqi oil, which gave it great importance in the strategies of major industrial countries, especially China, which lacks oil energy resources, so it turned to invest in the field of Iraqi oil fields, as well as the United States of America, which considers controlling Iraqi oil a strategic goal to prevent it from reaching countries that the United States of America sees as its equal. The research reached several results, the most important of which is the increase in the percentage of investments by Chinese oil companies compared to the percentage of investments by American oil companies, and the Chinese and American oil companies investing in Iraqi oil fields did not commit to reaching the target production set by the Iraqi government as a condition for concluding contracts with those companies, and despite all the negatives that accompanied foreign investment contracts in Iraq, they increased Iraq's oil production
